Gbese Mantse honours Harriet Thompson for promoting peace in Ghana

The Gbese Man­tse, Dr Nii Ayi Bonte II, over the weekend honoured the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, for contribution towards the pro­motion of peace in the country during the 2024 general elections.

As part of the honour, she was presented with a citation lauding her exemplary work and support for Ghana’s peaceful and transpar­ent elections as well as her efforts at fostering diplomatic and cultur­al relations between the people of Gbese and the government of the United Kingdom.

At a colourful ceremony held at the Gbese Mantse’s Palace in Ac­cra, at the weekend, Nii Ayi Bonte II expressed his commitment towards between the high com­mission and the Gbese Traditional Council.

He said the two had long standing relationship which had been mutual, however, the council would explore ways of leveraging this relationship for the develop­ment of the traditional area and Accra as a whole.

Mrs Thompson on her part expressed gratitude for the special recognition, and the collabora­tion between the British High Commission and the traditional council.

“This moment is not only special to me personally, but it is also a symbol of rich tradition of hospitality, wisdom and unity that defines Ghanaian culture,’’ she said.

Mrs Thompson highlighted the long-standing relationship between British High Commission and the Gbese Traditional Coun­cil, saying “Our joint efforts have consistently promoted develop­ment and social cohesion.”

She recalled series of impactful initiatives, including an annual football fixture that fosters good­will adding that “Every year, our commission team and the Gbese team play the curtain raiser match for the Home World Peace Cup’’.

Additionally, she noted the symbolic value of joint environ­mental action that during the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, gained collaboration, conducting a beach clean-up that brought the two communities together.

“To be honoured for sup­porting peace during Ghana’s 2024 elections is a recognition I received with great humility, ‘’ she said.

She reiterated the need for con­tinued partnership that transcend ceremonies and event, noting that the true strength of any society lies in its ability to come together in service of the common good.

The event attracted dignitar­ies, investors and members of the Ghanaian diaspora, aimed at boosting economic partnership and celebrate traditional leader­ship on the global stage.
