PROFILE OF HIS ROYAL MAJESTY DR. NII AYI-BONTE II, GBESE MANTSE & THE ADONTEN OF THE GA STATE.

  1. His Royal Majesty, Dr. Nii Ayi-Bonte II, Gbese Mantse and Adonten of the Ga State is known in private life as Thomas Okai and was born to the late Emmanuel Ayitey Okai of Gbese and Charlotte Kwaamah Ankrah of Otublohum Dadebanaa all of Accra in the Greater Accra Region of the Republic of Ghana.

He is an Accountant by profession and in 1995 he established the Lifetime Pharmacy Limited and Savemart Company Limited. In his private life, he did touch, impacted and transformed many lives by providing them with employment opportunities in both the Public Service and the Private Sector of which many Ghanaians can bear testimony and be proud of.

He is a Christian with an Anglican background with very unique qualities, indomitable spirit and an unwavering commitment, served his clan, society and nation at large in diverse ways.

2. Prior to 27th April, 2007, he was then known as Thomas Okai, and was Nominated, Selected and Installed as Nii Ayi-Bonte II, Gbese Mantse and Adonten of the Ga State and hails from Naa Onidin Akua / Akwete Krobo Saki We, the 3rdRoyal Ruling House of Gbese. The Gbese State constitutes one of the seven quarters which forms Ga-Mashi.

  1. His Royal Majesty, Dr. Nii Ayi-Bonte II, Gbese Mantse and Adonten of the Ga State, is a full member of both the Ga Traditional Council and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Dodowa.
  2. It is on record through the National Archives of Ghana that the Gbese Stool is endowed with ninety-two Satellite Towns and the most highest bequeathed with the highest number of Towns and Villages in the Ga State through Wars and these had been certified and listed by the British Colonial Government. His Royal Majesty, Dr. Nii Ayi-Bonte II, Gbese Mantse, therefore, on his ascension to the Gbese Stool is therefore putting a lot of governance structures and policies into force to harness all these resources including the physical assets to the benefit of the people of Gbese.
  3. He has made a lot of landmark achievements and advances in bringing peace and tranquility to the Gbese State and Ga Mashi, and is further continuing unrelentlessly in this humane, humble, people-centred and brotherhood manner to allow for a permanent healing process to the total advancement and development of the Gbese people and the national interest and stability as well.
  4. In his pursuit to all these developmental agenda, His Majesty, Dr. Nii Ayi-Bonte II, Gbese Mantse, is fast-tracking socio-economic policies in terms of human capital development, and that some Gbese State structures which were not in existence before his enstoolment in 2007 have been introduced to bring modernity and sanity, as the Chieftaincy institution has become rather dynamic to the changes of the times.
  5. As a result of these transformational steps and actions that he is undertaking, he has just began with scholarships to some vulnerables of Gbese lineage to access to free Basic Level Education in order to contribute positively to society in the years ahead.
  6. He is one of the most influential, powerful and indispensable Chiefs in the Ga Dangme Region whose voice is heard and an icon in the kingship throne, making an impact and strides among both his local people in the community and the nation as a whole.
  7. His integrity and vision are above par excellence and indisputable, and has been forging and knitting togetherness among his people as the journey is an arduous task to the prescribed destination.
  8. Nii Ayi-Bonte II, is a person, nurtured, grown among his people, fought and defended its legacy, which his clansmen bestowed on them from time immemorial and that he is a natural leader and a true warrior of his time.
  9. Some of the most indelible and august footprints that Nii Ayi-Bonte II will bequeath to the Gbese people and Ga Mashie-Ussher Town, Accra is the demolishing of the Over two century old dilapidated wooden Gbese Mantse Palace which was a mockery and an eye sore to the Community and the general public.
  10. Currently, the new Gbese Mantse Palace Complex is under construction and that it is a 3-storey building which will comprise of a spacious conference Centre, a Royal Court, Guest Apartment and other State-of-the-Art facilities which shall be a tourist haven in the Central Business District of the Accra Metropolitan Area.
  11. All these various positions and/or capacities he is holding provide ample attestation to the fact that he is a visionary and industrious with high and unblemished integrity, and that his work output justifies the sort of substance he is made of and that the threshold is that, he is a man of several parts.
  12. Despite the fact that, oneness/reconciliation is a process and being undertaken by His Royal Majesty, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, it is also a fact that peace and stability shall never be allowed to elude the Ga State and its people no matter the cost.
  13. He is both a member of the Judicial Committees of the Ga Traditional Council and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Dodowa, as well as a Commissioner of the Greater Accra Regional Lands Commission.
  14. On 8th December, 2018 the Riches Bible College and Clergy Council in conjunction with the Riches Theological University Koforidua-Ghana conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Leadership and Humanity (HONORI CAUSA) Award on His Royal Majesty, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, Gbese Mantse.
  15. He was also presented with the Hall of Fame Award for His distinguished years of outstanding performance, tireless dedication, consummate professionalism and unparalleled loyalty to the Gbese Stool, Ga State and Ghana as a whole by the United Clergy International Association on Thursday 11th April, 2019.
  16. Nii Ayi-Bonte II, Gbese Mantse on the 30th July, 2021, further received the UCIA (United Clergy International Association) Heroes of Distinction Award for Excellence Leadership from the United Clergy International Association Worldwide in collaboration with Bishop Anoff Ministries.
  17. In the field of sports, he propelled Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club to become One of the few, unparalleled and one of the greatest football clubs on the African Continent, and on the domestic League Scene. He made great and significant contribution towards the “Golden and Glorious” years of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club, the oldest existing football club in Ghana, which is the club of his birth place, Ussher Town and of his ancestors.
  1. Football, as an industry among many others, is noted for the provision of employment, career enhancement, entertainment, contribution to national revenue, promotion of peace, unity, national stability and prosperity.

His Royal Majesty Dr. Nii Ayi-Bonte II, was both a former Management Member and a Board Member of the Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club Limited:

  1. In year 2000 when he was the Deputy Chief Executive / Team Manager of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club, his Team was the 1st ever Ghanaian club to have won the 4th CAF Champions League Trophy and went further to win the CAF Super Cup Trophy in 2001 which is unprecedented in the football history of this country
  2. He was also the first Ghanaian and African Football Club Chief Executive to win the 2004 Confederation of African Football Cup, which was christened the “THE VIRGIN CUP” with his team Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club.
  • He was then awarded a Certificate of Honour in 2005 in recognition of his selfless contribution to the Ghana Football Association and as the Chief Executive Officer of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club when it won the maiden edition of the Confederation Cup in 2005.
  1. On 5th September, 2009, the Premier League Board and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) awarded a meritorious certificate to His Royal Majesty, Dr. Nii Ayi-Bonte II, Gbese Mantse for being the most outstanding Chief Executive Officer of the 2008/2009 GLO Premier League Season for his unique and outstanding role in the domestic league for three times in 2002, 2004 and 2006/07, and won the League Cups under different Title Sponsors. Furthermore, he took a short rest in 2007/08 and returned to recapture the title, thereby becoming the first club Chief Executive Officer to win the 2008/09 GLO Optical Crystal League Trophy.
  2. Furthermore, he was awarded the Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club Centenary Award for distinguished and meritorious Services in November, 2011.
  3. Apart from soccer, he nurtured, groomed, managed and promoted Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko to become the National Bantamweight Champion on 30th July, 1999 against Abdul Malik Jabir; and this success catapulted Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko to win and become the African Bantamweight Champion on 14th November, 2000 against Johannes Maisa of the Republic of South Africa.
  • His Royal Majesty, Dr. Nii Ayi-Bonte II, Gbese Mantse, was also the first Ghanaian to promote the World Boxing Federation (WBF) titleship in Ghana, and which was won by Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko to become the World Boxing Federation (WBF) Champion on 8th September, 2001 against Michael Kizza of Uganda.
